Barcelona wine tasting is a top activity for large and small, private and corporate groups as it is the perfect way to unwind and indulge whilst learning a little about the local wine culture. As Catalunya is famous for its wine production, BarcelonaTours.net wine tasting activity is a wonderful way to allow your group to find out more whilst enjoying some of the best wines the area has to offer.
Barcelona Wine Tasting For Groups
Catalunya and the rest of Spain really profit from the fabulous sunshine with extensive vineyards that blanket the local countryside. A wide variety of wines and cavas are produced from these vineyards and they are becoming well respected both nationally and internationally.
BarcelonaTours.net’s sommelier will explain the differences between four different wines; two white wines and two red wines. In addition to these wines your group will also be able to taste a top Spanish cava (sparkling wine).
Our two hours of wine tasting has the added authenticity of taking place right next to the historical ‘Las Ramblas’, in the Gothic Quarter, which offers a rich array of local products with a colourful and energetic atmosphere.
When In Barcelona…
When in Barcelona you must eat, drink and socialise like the Catalans. No glass of wine in Barcelona is complete without a little tapas. So your groups wine tasting session will also include a selection of local cheeses and cured meats to accentuate and bring out the different flavours of the wines. To get the full tapas experience, you can always combine this activity with our fabulous Barcelona Tapas Tour.
Your group wine tasting activity will begin with an introduction to the different wines and then, of course, you’ll be able to enjoy the tasting of the wines itself. You will learn the tricks of the trade from your private wine connoisseur who will help you to effectively taste wines and recognise the different flavours and varieties of grapes.
Heavy-Weight Mediterranean Grapes
The reputation of Spanish wine has been changing quite dramatically over recent years. Catalonia is one of the regions that is now attracting attention from international connoisseurs as well as visitors from all corners of the globe.
There was a time when Spanish wine meant cheap ‘plonk’, and the only Spanish vintage to have any international acclaim was Rioja. However, these days Spain has many different wine-growing areas, producing an extensive range of increasingly high-quality wines.
Food those savvy wine connoisseurs of you out there you’ve probably heard of the following Mediterranean grape varieties which are amongst the best in Catalunya: Primarily the Garnacha and the Carignan, amongst the red grapes and the Garnacha Blanca and Xarel-lo amongst the white grapes.
The heavy-weights grapes of; Tempranillo, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon area are also harvested throughout Catalonia, in addition to the white varieties of Macabeo and Parallada, which are also used for making the infamous Spanish sparkling wine, ‘cava’.
Catalonian wines tend to be full bodied and high in alcohol, due to the region’s Mediterranean weather conditions and the varieties of grapes. But Catalonia’s best wines also feature intense mineral properties due to some vineyards being planted on granite, chalk and fractured slate soils.

Both great thank you very much. We had about 6 people bail on the bike ride but it was actually very enjoyable, especially the first half which involved a lot of sites.
The flamenco night was fantastic – the venue was lovely and I really wish I had booked the morning for the bike ride so that we could have gone into the village as it was stunning. The food was nice as was the wine and the dancers were incredible. I’d definitely recommend a visit.
Again thank you so much for organising at such short notice.
